Illustrations for a new book | Ongoing until December 2026Acclaimed wildlife filmmaker and bestselling author Alastair Fothergill is releasing a new book. A Natural Selection serves as a personal look back at his 40-year career, featuring behind-the-scenes stories of filming 10 specific animals and how modern filming techniques reveal previously unseen behaviours. The book addresses how some of the animal behaviours they’ve filmed have shifted in response to climate change and human impact on the natural world. "The last crucial ingredient to the book will be the changes to the natural world I have seen with my own eyes” says Alastair. I have been commissioned to illustrate the book - and design the jacket image as well. Each chapter has a main header image and four or five small black and white gouache wash drawings. And each of the ten chapters are about an iconic species that Alastair has worked on over many decades as a director and producer of some of the most notable wildlife films on TV made in the last thirty plus years - the polar bear, wandering albatross, honey-bee, giant squid, golden eagle, chimpanzee, mountain gorilla, puffin, cheetah, and barn owl.
